Local Lay Pastor Vacancy Denby Dale and Clayton West

LOCAL LAY PASTOR

We are seeking to appoint a part time Local Lay Pastor to support the mission and ministry of two churches in the Denby Dale & Clayton West Methodist Circuit.

The Office of a Local Lay Pastor was launched by the Methodist Church in 2022.

The ideal applicant will be able to express faith naturally and authentically in ways that are appropriate, accessible, and sensitive to the situation. They will be able to articulate a sense of calling to pastoral ministry and have experience of this in either a paid or voluntary capacity.

 

This is a new post and the person appointed will be required to:

 

  • Provide preaching and worship leading ministry and pastoral oversight to the communities of Emley Methodist Church and Thurlstone & Millhouse Green Methodist Church as part of the Circuit Team.
  • Be a regular pastoral presence in the churches and local communities.
  • Identify and engage with activities and events which enable links between the churches and the wider local communities, particularly those in the third age.

 

Applicants will need to have completed six Local Lay Pastor modules at Cliff College. The appointment requires an enhanced DBS Disclosure and an occupational requirement exists for the post-holder to be a practising Christian.

 

NEXT STEPS & MAIN TERMS

Hours of work:

18.5 hours per week worked flexibly, Monday to Sunday, in agreement with your Line Manager, which will include some evening working. Actual days, start and finish times will be variable in accordance with the needs of the Employer. You will not be expected to work more than five days in a calendar week. You will be expected to lead worship on two Sundays per month.

Contract:

One year fixed term contract.

Rate of pay:

£18.00 per hour, with enrolment in the Circuit’s workplace pension scheme.

Location:

The role will be home based but with a requirement to work with the Methodist churches at Emley and Thurlstone & Millhouse Green. It may be possible to provide an office within the Circuit if preferred.
