Rise and Shine

Last year saw the pilot of an event called Rise and Shine, which was aimed at young people demonstrating leadership potential. Due to the success of the event we will be running the event again this summer from 7-9th July (Friday evening Sunday lunchtime) at Cliff College in Derbyshire.

The event will be looking at biblical leadership and how it can be applied in the context of the 21st century. It is open to any young person between the ages of 16 and 23 who have been identified by their churches, circuits or districts as having leadership potential. It will be an informal event to allow for in depth conversation and learning. There will be worship, workshops on effective leadership, open spaces for prayer and discernment, as well as times for fun social activities and games.

There are a limited number of spaces for this event, and as we want young people to be able to attend from across the connexion, we are asking circuits to send no more than two young people. The weekend is open to those who attended last year as well as to those new to the event. We want churches, circuits and districts to be intentional in whom they recommend for the event. We are specifically looking to work with young people who show leadership potential, or are eager to apply for leadership positions whether inside or outside of the Church. Due to the specific target audience, this event will not be widely advertised, and so we trust that ministers will highlight this opportunity to their young people.

Food, accommodation and travel between Chesterfield railway station and Cliff College are all covered within the discounted price of £75. Trains to/from Chesterfield, or other transport costs, will need to be covered separately by the delegate.

Young People can be registered onto Rise and Shine at https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/rise-shine-2017-tickets-32499684431

A quote from one of last year

participants:

I was asked by my minister to share something at our Circuit Meeting this evening about the [Rise and Shine] weekend and I was so encouraged by what people came up to me at the end to say after I had spoken. They were inspired by the vision and enthusiasm that I told them had come from our weekend together and seemed excited for the future of the Methodist Church.

With best wishes

Meg Prowting (on behalf of the Rise and Shine Team)
